EPSON Europe's Innovative Exhibition Stand at Drupa 2016

Designed by d=3, the stand is a unique fusion of form and function

EPSON Europe's exhibition stand at Drupa 2016, designed by d=3, is a testament to the power of innovative design. Inspired by EPSON's branding and designed to represent the brand's diverse markets, the stand is a unique blend of aesthetics and functionality.

The design of the stand was inspired by EPSON's special branding for exhibitions - a blue parallelogram. This shape was used as a tessellation in frosted material on LED backlit walls and on the trees that were a key feature of the stand. These trees, each representing a different product area, were a distinctive feature of the stand, providing a clear and visually appealing way to identify each area.

What sets this design apart is its simplicity and clarity. The stand was designed as a large shape that represented and covered the brand, with 'trees' at a lower level identifying the different product areas. The result was a clear, pleasant space with special shapes that effectively served the client's needs.

The stand was constructed using a lightweight aluminium tensile construction and poly-carbonate hollow core sheet, chosen to meet the weight-load limitations of the exhibition hall's ceiling. The design also incorporated backlit separation walls and sleek furniture, all designed for re-use in future projects.

The project was a significant undertaking, with the design process beginning in March 2016 and the stand being prepared for production until the end of May. The stand was then showcased at the Drupa 2016 exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany, from May 31 to June 10.

Despite the challenges posed by the weight limitations of the building and the need to arrange products within the available space without blocking sightlines, the design team was able to create a stand that was both visually appealing and functional. The design was based on the client's brief, the budget, and the physical limitations of the space, with significant research going into finding a creative solution to the weight limitations.

The stand was a resounding success, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This award is given to designs that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, advance art, science, design, and technology, and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.
